What makes the Eight & Sand Beer Co. so environmentally sustainable? Read on.
An Overview of Eight & Sand Beer Co.
In 2016, the doors of Eight & Sand Beer Co. were opened to the public. Chris Mazzone, Dominick Mazzone, and Chris Burke were longtime friends when they decided to start a brewery together. It’s proven to have been a good decision. When they started the business, the three of them made a pact to themselves, and to the community to create the most environmentally sustainable brewery they possibly could.
One particularly interesting facet of their eco-friendly brewing facility is the use of steam instead of open flame to produce the heat necessary for brewing beer. They also employ a high efficiency cleaning system that allows the brewers to reuse and recycle cleaning materials and sanitizers — waste not, want not. According to the Eight & Sand Beer Co. website, “This will save about 16,000 therms of natural gas and 170,000 gallons of water in our first five years.” That’s a substantial figure. On top of all of that, they have a large array of solar panels that produce a total of 35,000 kWh (kilowatt hours) of clean electric energy every year. To put that number into perspective, the average household uses about 30 kWh of electricity per day. From their solar panels alone, Eight & Sand is producing enough energy to power the average household for over three years!

The Beer from Eight & Sand provides a modern twist on the old but classic styles we grew up with. By implementing a mix of old European brewing styles and modern American ingredients that make your favorite IPAs so tasty, you end up with a sessionable beer packed with fresh flavor. The classic brewing methods they use tend to create a beer with a lower ABV when compared to today’s standards of 10% double IPAs. These are beers that can be drunk all day with friends at a cookout without forcing you to tap out too soon. That said, they don’t exclusively brew session beers, but offer a variety of choices to satisfy just about all preferences. At the time of writing, the Eight & Sand tap list offers 5% ABV Lagers up to 11% ABV imperial stouts. There really is a beer for everyone.
See what their guests have to say about them:
“Not only some of the best beer in South Jersey but arguably the best beer nationwide. Eight & Sand’s IPA #2 is pretty much a perfect IPA. These guys are prolific, in just under two years they have made dozens of different beer varieties all of which excel. The brewery itself is clean and welcoming with a nice, large tasting room that has a rustic railway vibe. Pick up a pizza (or have one delivered) and head over for a rail (flight) of brews!” – Jim, Google Reviews
